Critic remarks about Antonio Dal Muto’s painting and drawing The painting: research is the engine which is in the artist’mind, as he says: “Without research the art is going to die under a banal repetition of concepts, forms and contents” especially nowdays, as not the pure interest in art moves the system, generally speaking, but market interests’re working around the Art. So Antonio Dal Muto’s painting is, constantly, in evolution, but where artist’s language always is remarkable. Lanscape is his preferable “field of battle”; he says: “Many gallerists priorly refused to analyze works showing Lanscapes, as, they say, not interesting!! How wrong it is! The problem is not the showed subject in modern art, but how it is “told”; which language is used. My language is formed on using Varnish and oil colours, on canvas or on thin sheet plastic material as “grammatic structure”. But the most important aspect of his painting is the CHROMATISM, a personal cultural concept by which the use of colours is much more important than the subjets: so the trees in his works could be of light blue or orange colours. Figure : In this field of creative expression, Antonio Dal Muto constantly tries to re-obtain expression near the “Verism”, according to the classic lesson, but with a touch of modernism, wich can be identified in the monochromatic colours used next to the pencil-coal or chaircoal. This inversion of tendence, he thinks, is due to the fact that the art of drawing is nearby to be lost, as the contemporary tendencies don’t take care of basic lessons of the classical painting, forgetting what Michelangiolo Buonarroti said to a pupil of him: “ Do you wish to be a good painter? Well, draw, draw and draw Antonio!” At present he is working about things which are not yet victims of globalization, I mean, he is working using the trash (that you throw, not selected, in a basket). This theme was chosen for two reasons 1) many panting works are defined as Artistic works, when they, at least, could be seen as simple trash for their banality. So why not to carry the real trash in the studio and get it as Art? So he did. One of the most significative experiencies in art shows was the constitution of a group of painters so called “ The Group of Anthropologis” by which he, with the other 4 painters, wished to face important themes in Painting, the last significative Art-shows made according to this point of wiev, were about the SHOAH. “. Exhibitions were done about this theme, which will be re.proposed on 27 january of every year as, you know, this day is, in Europe, known as the “Holocaust Memorial day”. Other themes are under construction following the anthropologist point of wiev.
