Loretta M. Verbout
Photographer / Artist
Loretta has been a photographer /
artist for over 30 years. She has been creating a variety of artistic pieces in
a variety of media, however continues to return to photography. Her focus tends to be in capturing everyday
sites that we all may normally pass by,
or not give a second thought to, along with trying to look at things from a bit
of a different angle. The majority of her works tend to be pictures of local
nature, as well as things from her own floral garden, and explorations of the
nature of Minnesota, Wisconsin, northeastern Iowa, and northwestern Illinois.
She
graduated with B.S. in Art from Illinois
State University
with concentrations in Photography and Graphic (hand drawn) design, and focuses
in business and education. Upon moving to Minnesota, she was very successful in doing
portrait, wedding and special event photography. After taking time off to raise her family, Loretta
is returning to her love of everyday photography.
As
Executive Director for Rochester Area Disabled Athletics & Recreation,
Inc., (aka RADAR) and as the Community Liaison for the Mayo Clinic Department
of Rehabilitation, she was instrumental in the establishment of the Art
Workshop between RADAR and the Studio
Academy Arts
High School. Here
students of the school and individuals with disabilities together explore the
various media of art. The works produced
during these workshops can be seen in the ongoing exhibit “Art & Ability –
a show promoting artists with disabilities” at Mayo Clinic.
Her
photography has won a variety of different awards in several local shows,
including Best of Show – professional in the 2007 Art & Ability – a show
promoting artists with disabilities a the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She has won a variety of other awards as

Loretta
shares her passion for photography and nature with her husband, Jim, their
grown children –Kimberly & Brandon, and their dogs - Wicket & Tanner.
They have lived in northwest Rochester
for over 20 years. Along with photography and other art forms, she enjoys fishing
(especially bass & walleye), cooking, reading, traveling, gardening, as
well as exploring the disappearing arts of tatting and, filet net lace.
